A Model of Bargaining with Incomplete Information

چکیده

We study the equilibrium outcomes of two-person bargaining problems in which each party has “outside option” known only to himself. We examin two game forms, a sequential-move game and a simulteneous-move game. In this context we discuss the failure to reach agreements and the loss of efficiency thereof. Invoking the analogy between the sequentialmove game and the familiar ultimatum game we also provide new interpretation of the experimental evidence regarding the players behavior in the ultimatum game.

Bargaining with Incomplete Information: An Infinite-Horizon Model with Two-Sided Uncertainty

The resolution of any bargaining conflict depends crucially on the relative urgency of the agents to reach agreement and the information each agent has about the others’ preferences. This paper explores, within the context of an infinite-horizon bargaining model with two-sided uncertainty, how timing and information affect the rational behaviour of agents when commitment is not possible. Since ...

An Alternative View of Uncertainty in Bilateral Bargaining Models with Incomplete Information

This paper seeks to analyze the implications of relaxing the assumption of rationality by using incomplete information. Specifically, we want to analyze the implications on the uniqueness and existence of equilibrium when individuals form expectations with different distributions of all possible states. This is done by postulating an alternative view of uncertainty in decision making in economi...

Bargaining or searching for a better price? - An experimental study

This experimental study investigates two bargaining games with twosided incomplete information between a seller and a buyer. In the first game with no outside options many subjects do not use the incomplete information to their advantage as predicted. We find that a model with adjusting priors better explains observed behavior. The second game gives the buyer the option to buy via search or ret...

Bargaining, search, and outside options

This paper studies a two-sided incomplete information bargaining model between a seller and a buyer. The buyer has an outside option, which is modeled as a sequential search process during which he can also choose to return to bargaining at any time. Two cases considered: In Regime I, both agents have symmetric information about the search parameters. We find that, in contrast to bargaining wit...

Bargaining and Conflict with Incomplete Information

This paper studies bargaining and conflict under incomplete information, provides an overview and a critical account of the literature on the topic and contributes with original research. We first revise models of mechanism design and sequential bargaining that take confrontation as final. Conflict and inefficiencies are to be expected in these models whenever parties have optimistic prospects ...

Working Paper No . 2013 - 07 Cooperative Transfer Price Negotiations under Incomplete Information

In this paper, we analyze a model in which two divisions negotiate over an intrafirm transfer price for an intermediate product. Formally, we consider bargaining problems under incomplete information, since the upstream division’s (seller’s) costs and downstream division’s (buyer’s) revenues are supposed to be private information. Assuming two possible types for buyer and seller each, we first ...
